Image Compressor

Shrink photos and graphics for email, websites and upload limits — see exactly how many KB you save. Files are converted in your browser and never uploaded.

Quick answer

Most phone photos shrink by 80–90% with no visible change when you cap the width at 2,000 px and save at 70–80% quality. Choose WebP output for the smallest files, or set exact dimensions with the image resizer.

About the Image Compressor

Most photos straight from a phone are 3–8 MB and 4,000+ pixels wide — far bigger than any screen needs. Two things shrink them: lowering the pixel dimensions, and saving with stronger compression.

The defaults here cap width at 2,000 px and use 72% quality, which typically cuts phone photos by 80–90% with no visible difference on screen. Choose WebP output for the smallest web files.

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply to it. To make PNG photos dramatically smaller, change the output to JPG or WebP.

How to use it

  1. Add your images.
  2. Keep “Keep original” format, or choose WebP for the smallest files.
  3. Adjust quality — lower means smaller files.
  4. Set a maximum width (e.g. 1600 px for websites, 1200 px for email).
  5. Compress and download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a photo to under 100 KB?

Set max width to about 1,200 px, choose JPG or WebP, and lower quality to around 60–70%. Check the size shown, and lower it a little more if needed.

Will compression make my photo blurry?

Between roughly 70% and 90% quality, most people cannot see a difference on screen. Below about 50%, blockiness becomes visible.

Why did my PNG barely shrink?

PNG compression is lossless. Resize it, or convert it to WebP (keeps transparency) or JPG for much bigger savings.
