URL Encoder & Decoder

Encode values for query strings, encode whole URLs, or decode percent-encoded links back to plain text. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored.

Quick answer

URL encoding replaces unsafe characters with % codes — a space becomes %20 and & becomes %26 — so values survive inside a query string. Building campaign links? The UTM builder encodes them for you.

About the URL Encoder & Decoder

URLs can only contain a limited set of characters. Everything else — spaces, accents, & and = inside values — has to be percent-encoded as % followed by hex bytes. A space becomes %20 and “é” becomes %C3%A9.

Use “Encode value” for a single query-string value so characters like & and = don’t break the URL. Use “Encode full URL” when you have a complete address and only need to fix spaces and non-ASCII characters.

How to use it

  1. Pick a mode.
  2. Paste your text or URL.
  3. Copy the result.

Frequently asked questions

Should a space be %20 or +?

In paths, always %20. In query strings submitted by HTML forms, + also means a space. The decoder treats + as a space.

What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?

encodeURI leaves URL structure characters (: / ? & = #) alone; encodeURIComponent encodes them too, which is what you want for a value inside a query string.

Why does decoding fail?

A % sign not followed by two hex digits is malformed. Encode stray % signs as %25.
